About this video: If you want to know how to make a Minecraft server in 1.18.1 in order to play Minecraft 1.18.1 with your friends, this is the video for you. We show you everything when it comes to playing Minecraft Java Edition with your friends on a 1.18.1 server! In order to do this, you will have to port forward. However, we go in-depth on how to port forward your server to allow your friends to play Minecraft 1.18.1 on your server. Additionally, Minecraft 1.18.1 fixes a security bug found in 1.18. Thus, updating is very important!
The first step of creating a Minecraft 1.18.1 server is downloading the server files. You can find you can find a link in the description above that will take you to our website. Here, you will see a green ‘Download Minecraft’ button. Click this to be taken to the official Minecraft 1.18.1 server files download page. On this page, you want to click the green ‘minecraft_server.1.18.1.jar’ link. This will start the download process for the Minecraft 1.18.1 server files. You will need to keep or save these files depending on your browser.
After you have the 1.18.1 server jar downloaded, create a folder on your desktop called ‘Minecraft 1.18.1 Server’. Then, drag-and-drop the server.jar you downloaded into this folder. Finally, open up the folder, and double-click the server.jar. Assuming you have the correct version of Java some files and folders should appear. However, if they don’t, it is because you need Java 17. You can find our link to Java 17 and how to get it in the description above. You may also need to run the Jarfix, which you can find linked above as well.
You will now see an ‘eula.txt’ file. Open this file with notepad and change ‘eula=false’ to ‘eula=true’ assuming you do agree to the Minecraft EULA. Double click on the server.jar file again, and your Minecraft 1.18.1 server will start up! You can join your server at this point by opening up Minecraft 1.18.1 and using ‘localhost’ as your IP address. You are the only person who can join your server this way though.
If you want to learn how to play Minecraft with friends in 1.18.1, you will need to port forward. This is an overall easy process once you login to your router. You can find a complete guide on how to login to your router in the description above.
Specifically, you will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. You may also need to enable Java in Windows Defender, and we have a complete guide on how to do this in the description above. We also have a link to a video that you can use to troubleshoot issues with your Minecraft server.
Once you have port forwarded though, your friends will use your public IP address to join. You can find this at the link in the description above. Make sure you only give this out to people you trust though as your public IP can show sensitive information.
